Roomy Treadbelt

A vital component of the drive system, this 20- by 50-inch treadmill belt is designed to operate both smoother and quieter than the average treadmill belt.

0 to 10 MPH QuickSpeed Control

Instead of tediously scrolling through options, the QuickSpeed control allows you to instantly change the speed of the treadmill between 0 to 10 miles per hour with the single touch of a button.

At this price you may not expect a particularly robust treadmill. However, you may be surprised at exactly how safe and comfortable this machine feels. Despite its lightweight frame and design, it actually feels relatively sturdy during use.

The ProShox Lite adds a particularly pleasant underfoot feeling which you don’t often get at this price point. You won’t feel as though you’re walking on air, but you’ll certainly feel like you’re walking on something that cost a little more than $600 dollars.

The belt dimensions are 22 inches by 55 inches, which is only 5 inches more lengthways than a lot of the higher priced models. This is a really useful feature because the more movement space you have on the belt, the safer you feel.

The Proform 505 CST can only really be rated as an entry level machine in the way of performance. If you’re recovering from an injury, or struggling to exercise with a long term illness or injury, or you simply haven’t applied yourself to activity in a while then this really is the ideal machine for you. However, if you’re already at a good fitness level and require an all singing all dancing treadmill that can take a beating, this simply isn’t a match made in heaven.

The programs are all fairly adequate and you can track basic feedback like pulse, calories and speed and the machine has pulse pads for you to track your heart rate although, these can be fairly inaccurate.

It is a little disappointing that the iFit console is not included in the price (expect to pay around another $150 dollars) although not surprising at this ‘no frills’ level of exercise machine.

If you do choose to purchase the iFit console as well you’ll find your exercise options and progress tracking will become a lot more interactive and entertaining as it has calorie counting facilities, a 2 user capacity and the ability to enjoy various other workout experiences.

Ease Of Use & Convenience

Once your treadmill is set up it is incredibly easy to use and has a good layout with the exception of the cup holders which are far too shallow for most people’s water bottles.

Unfortunately setting the machine up is a little bit more difficult and you may find you start to burn off more calories than you thought you would before even stepping on the machine.

The manual doesn’t clearly explain exactly how to set the machine up and you have to assemble every single component. The most inadequately labelled parts being the nuts and bolts which are all mixed up together with no labelling. The assembly is the worst part of the process as the manual is misleading and the labelling on the parts is inadequate.

If you choose to purchase the iFit you’ll discover a lot more entertainment on your Proform 505 CST, however as the standard treadmill doesn’t come with the console it can’t be counted as part of the machines basic entertainment elements.

In the way of entertainment you only really have the music system to enjoy alongside your workout. The port is iPod compatible and the correct wiring should come with the machine as part of the package. The sound produced by the speakers is below par, however you get a similar experience with the majority of mid range and even top range machines so, it’s not completely unexpected. It’s a nice alternative to headphones during a workout.

  • Parts- 1 year
  • Labour- 1 year
  • Motor- 25 years
  • Frame- lifetime

The Final Verdict

For under $600 dollars, the Proform 505 CST is good value for money as long as you understand what you are getting. You simply cannot expect a high performance treadmill at this price point, but you still have every right to expect a machine that works properly and works well.

If you’re new to fitness or simply want an easy way to incorporate gentle exercise into your day to day life this machine is perfect for you. If you’re in need of bells, whistles and more and want to bust several moves, several hours, every day on your treadmill, you’ll need to keep saving as the Proform 505 CST is simply not for you.

Captiva Elliptical Trainer Review (Cardio Core Training Series)

The Captiva elliptical trainer (Cardio Core Training Series) is an incredibly quiet, well designed trainer with an innovative, electronically adjustable incline feature. Other key features include 9 preset programs, an iPod dock (and charger) and an incredible adjustable stride length of 18-28 inches.

Many of the features are well thought out and intuitive too, but is the Captiva elliptical machine as silent as the manufacturer states? Is the base as sturdy as other ellipticals with a front flywheel and is the cardio core motion as effective as other elliptical machines in this price range?

Dimensions & Technical Specifications

  • 33 (width) x 66 (length) x 66 (height) inches (167.64 cm x 83.8 cm x 167.64 cm);
  • Fully extended length: 81 inches (205.7 cm)
  • 400 pounds (181.4 kg) maximum user weight
  • 243 pounds (110.2 kg) assembled weight
  • 275 pounds (124.7 kg) shipping weight

Key Features

  • CardioCore motion handlebars
  • 18″-28″ Adjustable Stride on the fly
  • 0-50% Electronically Adjustable Incline
  • 9 Pre-Set Programs
  • Custom Programing
  • Surefit™ Pivoting Foot Pedals
  • Built In Heart Rate Control by Polar
  • iPod™ Docking & Charging
  • 30 Day Money Back Guarantee
  • Best in-class Lifetime warranty included

The Captiva elliptical trainer has a maximum user capacity of 400 pounds so you would expect it to feel incredibly solid and robust; and it is. Despite the rear flywheel, the machine feels safe and sturdy even during full motion.

“I am glad I bought the Captiva ( not the Sanibel), it’s worth the extra $500 because of the stride adjuster and incline adjustment feature.” – Click here to read the full review on Amazon

The comfort of the full elliptical motion is definitely something that should be tried before purchasing if possible. The cardio core motion of the handlebars could feel a little tight on the spine for some people and feels completely different to many other elliptical machines.

Rather than moving your arms backwards and forwards, your arms move from side to side. The motion of the elliptical itself is also very different to the normal ramp system machines. Your feet move in a circular stepping motion which feels a little unnatural to begin with, it can also leave the knees a little sore when used in conjunction with the rampless incline at its maximum 50% capacity.

One big positive of the Captiva trainers design is the ability to adjust the stride to a mammoth 28 inches. This is incredibly beneficial (especially for taller users) as it means you can ensure your stride will be comfortable whichever program or incline position you choose to use.

The Captiva elliptical trainers cardio core motion is designed to work out core muscle areas; the innovative elliptical motion is designed to target key muscle groups without placing any additional strain on the joints. If you can get used to the movement (which takes a bit of doing, we’ll be honest), you will find it works all the main muscle areas as stated by the manufacturer.

“It’s VERY smooth, and VERY quiet!” – Click here to read the full review on Amazon

You can certainly work up a sweat using the 9 preset programs which include; Manual, Target Time – Counts up or down from a specified time, Target Distance – Counts up or down from a specified distance and Target Calories – Counts up or down from a specified number and Core Interval resistance program with eight unique intensity levels. The trainer also has basic feedback facilities which include a polar chest strep; the most accurate way to monitor your heart rate. You can also use the handlebar sensors but they aren’t as accurate in comparison.

The Captiva elliptical trainer also has a massive 9 user capacity which means 9 different people can store their information and progress on the machine.

The rear drive technology could help some users excel in their fitness progression while others may simply find the motion too strange and unusual to encourage them to workout, so keep this in mind.

Ease Of Use & Convenience

The Captiva (Cardio Core Trainer Series) elliptical trainer is extremely heavy and will need to be set-up where you intend to use it. Once setup it does have a very compact footprint which is very convenient and space saving.

“The instructions were OK, but you could tell English wasn’t the primary language of the person who wrote them.” – Click here to read the full review on Amazon

The control itself is fairly basic and in all honesty, it isn’t the easiest to use (you’ll probably need to consult the manual) but once you get used to the layout, you should be able to get to grips with it.

What’s more, the water bottle holder is not very big which may annoy some users who like to stay well hydrated during their workouts.

By far the best feature of the machine is it’s incredibly quiet motion. The fact it is nearly silent is really useful and means it is ideal for those living in apartment blocks or flats (or perhaps those living with partners).

The Captiva elliptical machine does have an iPod dock and speaker system but these features are fairly limiting for all users. Firstly you need to have an iPod or you can’t use the dock, which is incredibly annoying for those who want to use the system who don’t own a compatible Apple product.

“There isn’t a place for a book, but I’ll be watching TV anyway.” – Click here to read the full review on Amazon

Secondly the speakers are below par which is quite common with inbuilt elliptical music systems but is a little annoying nonetheless.

The most entertaining part of the machine is the movement which will contribute towards the novelty factor initially and interest you enough to encourage you to workout. You should also find that the incline is enough to vary your workouts regularly and push your fitness levels. If you can’t get used to the motion however, you’ll probably not want to continue use.

  • Frame – Lifetime
  • Braking system – lifetime
  • Parts and electronics – 5 years
  • Labour – 2 years

The Final Verdict

“I strongly recommend this machine and am really pleased with my purchase.” – Click here to read the full review on Amazon

The Captiva elliptical trainer (cardio core training series) is a well built, innovative machine with intuitive design and usability. Unfortunately the machine is very much something you should, if possible, try before you buy.

The completely different style of movement may well alienate some users and be that bit too different to get used to. Aside from this, the machine is feature-packed and offers a lot for your money. However, at just over $2000 dollars, you need to know you’ll at least enjoy the basic workout movement on the machine as well as the other features.

Horizon Fitness EX-57 Elliptical Trainer Review

The Horizon Fitness EX-57 Elliptical Trainer is a budget elliptical with a basic range of workout features and adjustability options. It falls into the budget elliptical category but doesn’t have many of the extras that similar elliptical machines in the same budget do have.

The machine itself has 9 basic workout programs, 8 resistance levels and an 18-inch stride length. At under $500 dollars, the machine has a few varied features and an accessible price point, but does it deliver on quality and most importantly; is it good value for money?

Dimensions & Technical Specifications

  • 29 (width) x 55 (length) x 67 (height) inches (74 x 140 x 170 cm)
  • 275 pounds (125 kg) maximum user capacity
  • 163 pounds (73.9 kg) assembled weight
  • 178 pounds (80.7 kg) shipping weight

Key Features

  • Front-Drive Elliptical Frame
  • Feedback options; Time, Distance, Speed, Calories, Heart Rate, Incline, Watts
  • Flywheel weight; 6.5 kg / 14.3 lbs
  • 9 Programs – Choose Goal Option (Time, Calories, Distance) and Terrain Type (Manual, Hills, Reverse Train)
  • Contact Grips for heart rate monitoring
  • Water Bottle Holder
  • ECB Magnetic Brake
  • 8 Levels of resistance
  • 18-inch Stride Length

The fact the Horizon Fitness EX-57 Elliptical Trainer has a flywheel at the front means it feels generally sturdier than those which have the wheels placed at the back.

“I’m 220 lbs and 5’5 and I feel very comfortable on it.” – Click here to read the full review on Amazon

The arm reach is fairly comfortable and allows for full extension which is great for optimum full body workout results and inclusion of key target muscle areas such as biceps and triceps. As mentioned, the trainer has an 18-inch stride length which is the same as most standard elliptical machines; unfortunately it can make working out a little uncomfortable for those who are taller or who have longer strides.

The foot pedals are also standard and basic (no real grips or cushioning)  which means longer workouts can start to hurt the bottom of your feet.

The elliptical movement itself is generally quite smooth and solid feeling although the parts do need greasing often and the components need to be tightly connected to prevent any knocking. The machine can also knock around a little if used to its full capacity which detracts from the overall feeling of quality and safety.

Unfortunately, you don’t have a lot to play around with in the way of exercise on the Horizon Fitness EX-57 Elliptical Trainer. There are 9 basic programs available which are; Choose Goal Option (Time, Calories, Distance) and Terrain Type (Manual, Hills, Reverse Train) but they really lack innovation and variation.

“You can get an intense workout from this machine and I feel it is very comparable to the ellipticals I use in the gym.” – Click here to read the full review on Amazon

The programs would more than likely get a little boring and repetitive over time but are adequate for a good, overall workout and are particularly suitable for those new to elliptical machines or on the start of their fitness journey. he programming doesn’t seem to incorporate much imagination which is fairly obvious during the repetitive workouts. This doesn’t really make the most of the machine or show it off to its full capacity which is a real shame.

The heart rate sensors on the handles are poor and don’t really give an accurate reading; it’s unfortunate that the machine doesn’t have a chest strap and telemetry features as some lower priced ellipticals do; these offer a much more accurate reading.

The feedback options are; Time, Distance, Speed, Calories, Heart Rate, Incline and watts which are basic but adequate. Overall, the Horizon Fitness EX-57 Elliptical Trainer really doesn’t stack up that well in terms of performance as there as much better options out there.

Ease Of Use & Convenience

The Horizon Fitness EX-57 Elliptical Trainer is easy and convenient to assemble and operate. The console is incredibly simple to use and isn’t confusing in the slightest.

You can quite easily get started on your workout with ease as soon as your machine is assembled and greased. The fact that the screen is not backlit means it is fairly difficult to read and would be very hard to see in a room that is not well lit.

“There is a small lip on the console which allows me to put my Kindle Fire 8.9 inch or iPhone 4S there as I listen to music or watch television, which is very nice.” – Click here to read the full review on Amazon

Unfortunately, there are no bells and whistles with the Horizon EX-57 trainer and it shows. More often than not, if the basic machine shines through, the extras are just an added bonus and aren’t the main feature. The programs and feedback options available are adequate and give a decent workout but may not entertain more seasoned elliptical users long term.

The machine itself is pleasurable to use, it is just a shame the programs available aren’t a little more innovative. The 8 levels of resistance go some way towards customization capabilities, which means you can make the workouts more difficult for yourself if you want to and also vary your exercise routines as well.

If it’s any consolation, there is a ledge on the console that could be used for a book, e-reader or tablet PC.

  • Frame – lifetime
  • Parts – 1 year
  • Labour – 1 year

The Final Verdict

“All-in-all, I’m very happy with this machine. I especially like the 1 year electronics and parts and the 1 year labor warranty.” – Click here to read the full review on Amazon

For under $500 dollars, the Horizon Fitness ex-57 Elliptical Trainer definitely falls into the budget price range. It is a well-rounded machine with basic, well designed features that work well. Unfortunately, when compared to other ellipticals in the same price category, it does fall a little short in the way of extras, customization and adjustability capabilities.

It is best suited to those new to elliptical training or those who may not feel the need for all the extra bells and whistles when it comes to their exercise machine. It’s good for the price, but it definitely doesn’t stand out as the best value elliptical in its price range.

Horizon fitness EX-69-2 Elliptical Trainer Review

The Horizon fitness EX-69-2 elliptical trainer is a sophisticated, well-built elliptical machine with a great range of intuitive features and workout capabilities. The machine comes with plenty of extras including; 10 preset programs, a 20-inch stride and 20 different resistance levels. It also boasts an inbuilt speaker system, inbuilt fan and 7 feedback options.

For under $1000 dollars it’s a well-designed elliptical with plenty of fun features and exercise options. It is also the successor to the original Horizon Fitness EX-69 and includes a few new and improved features as well as a beautiful new design.

Dimensions & Technical Specifications

  • 22 (width) x 73 (length) x 65 (height) inches (56 x 185 x 165 cm)
  • 300 pounds maximum user weight (136 kg)
  • 185 pounds assembled weight (84 kg)
  • 201 pounds shipping weight (93 kg)

Key Features

  • SixStar Certified™ platform for the most natural feel you’ll find on an elliptical.
  • 20” stride length accommodates everyone in your household, no matter how tall or petite
  • 5.75” bright LCD display to view workout feedback with just a glance
  • 20 resistance levels and 5 manual incline positions offer versatility
  • 10 Programs – Manual, Speed Intervals, Endurance Intervals, Peak Intervals, Cardio Burn, Muscle Toner, Strength Builder, Nature Trail, Peak Descent, Mountain Climb
  • MP3-Compatible Speakers, Audio-In Jacks
  • COOLfit™ Personal Fan
  • GoalCenter™ Performance Tracking
  • Water Bottle Holder
  • Reading Rack & Accessories Tray
  • ECB Magnetic Brakes
  • 14.3 lbs (6.5 kg) Flywheel
  • Oversized Foot Pedals

The Horizon fitness EX-69-2 elliptical trainer features a SixStar certified platform which adds a really comfortable and natural feel to the base, making the elliptical movement smooth and enjoyable. The oversized footpads are comfortable and a good size, offering added enjoyment to longer workouts.

“I’m a 5’9″ girl and I am very comfortable using this elliptical and it works great for me.” – Click here to read the full review on Amazon

The manual incline positions do unfortunately create a minor physicality issue because they change the position you are in to more of an extreme than you may have been expecting. The inclines create a ‘downhill’ feeling to the workout which doesn’t feel natural and can actually end up pinching the toes a little. The pedals move during the adjustment but the flywheel stays in the same position so you’re angled rather badly. It’s a real shame as the elliptical movement itself is so good and for some, may render this customization option unusable.

If you’re on the taller side, the ellipticals 20-inch stride may feel like it comes up a little short, but still remains relatively comfortable for most users. It’s just those who are taller that may find it a little tight.

The Horizon fitness EX-69-2 elliptical machine has everything you need to create high quality, well constructed workouts. The movement itself means you have no joint or muscle impact although the incline position could be a little uncomfortable for some people.

“There are built in workouts, including one that feels like you are rolling up and down hills. It’s a real workout, but it’s also fun!” – Click here to read the full review on Amazon

The preset programs are; Manual, Speed Intervals, Endurance Intervals, Peak Intervals, Cardio Burn, Muscle Toner, Strength Builder, Nature Trail, Peak Descent and Mountain Climb. The nature trail, peak descent and mountain climb programs are particularly tough and well designed, although users with low fitness levels may have to build up their performance levels in order to use them. The overall difficulty levels on the programs do seem to be set quite high without really catering for beginners, although there is the manual option if you want a workout with a lower intensity.

The elliptical trainer also has feedback options of; Time, Distance, Speed, Calories, Heart Rate, Program Level and watts. The contact grips are adequate but not especially accurate on this elliptical. You can also track your progress using the GoalCenter™ workout tracking capabilities which allow you to track your progress over days, weeks or months.

Ease Of Use & Convenience

The product with packaging is extremely heavy and difficult to move and should be placed where the product is going to be set up, if possible. The instructions for set up are very clear and assembly doesn’t take a long time. Additional grease should be added to get the moving parts lubricated quicker and with more ease, unfortunately the machine does not come with any grease included.

The console is easy to use and the cup holder is conveniently placed with two extra holds either side which are useful for TV remotes or phones.

The entertainment value of the Horizon Fitness EX-69-2 elliptical trainer is actually pretty great. The speakers are of a higher standard than most phones or computers and can be easily connected to an iPad or similar device.

“The built-in fan is a nice touch, it aims right at my face, though other users might have a different experience based on their height.” – Click here to read the full review on Amazon

The fan is actually relatively useful and creates a decent airflow for workout, and the 5.75-inch LCD display is attractive to look at and works relatively well. You may find the overwhelming amount of buttons a little disconcerting at first but the programs are easy to navigate around and the format is well designed, you just have to get used to it.

Unfortunately, despite the screen itself being well lit, the keys are a little dark and aren’t as easy to see if your room isn’t well lit. The reading rack and extra holds for accessories are useful and well positioned.

The customization capabilities and adjustability, combined with the fun and challenging programs mean you’re well set up entertainment-wise with this elliptical, even before you’ve even started using the added extras.

  • Frame – lifetime
  • Parts – 1 year
  • Labour – 1 year

The Final Verdict

“All in all, I am very happy with this elliptical; it appears to be a high quality exercise machine, and I recommend it.” – Click here to read the full review on Amazon

At under $1000, the Horizon Fitness EX-69-2 elliptical trainer offers exceptional value for money. Even when taking into account the incline issues, you’re still getting a pretty amazing deal considering everything else included at this price point.

The machine works really well, you’ve got lifetime frame cover, all the entertainment features are of a good quality and the programs are genuinely innovative and fun. The Horizon Fitness EX-69-2 is a sophisticated, sturdy machine that is built to last, built to work you hard and built to entertain. You’d be hard-pushed to find a better elliptical trainer under the $1000 mark.

“I knew I needed an exercise machine that would be easy on my back, easy on my knees and also my shoulder. THIS IS IT!” – Click here to read the full review on Amazon

The arms are fully adjustable which means you can move them out of the way if you want a leg only workout or you can position them comfortably if you want a full workout or an upper body only workout. The handlebar coverings are also excellent to grip onto and get gradually thicker towards the ends; this makes them useful to squeeze when you’re at the height of an intense workout program.

The micro-adjustment sliding positioning system and contoured backrest really catapult this elliptical trainer into a league of its own. The backrest and facility to adjust your position means you can adjust the machine to suit your needs and enjoy a challenging workout with no added stress or strain on your lumbar or core.

If you are unable to use conventional elliptical trainers and want to improve your health and fitness, this machine has everything you need to do that and more.

“It is a great total body workout and I enjoy the feel of the elliptical motion so much more than my recumbent bike.” – Click here to read the full review on Amazon

The programs offered are; Manual, Rolling Hills, Peak, Plateau, Mountain Climb, Hill Interval, Strength Interval, Fat Burn HRC, Cardio HRC, Custom 1 and Custom 2. The programs are well designed and really push the user to exercise key muscle groups with enjoyable and varied workout programs. You can also track; Speed, Time, Distance, Pulse, RPM, Watts, Calories and Workout Levels.

The HCI Fitness PhysioStep RXT-1000 comes with heart rate sensors enabling you to track your pulse and it is also telemetry enabled when used with a compatible chest strap (the chest strap doesn’t always come with the product).

Ease Of Use & Convenience

The HCI Fitness PhysioStep RXT-1000 Recumbent Elliptical Trainer is incredibly easy to assemble and set up, with clear and easy to read instructions. The footprint is very compact so you could easily set it up in a household with restricted space.

The machine itself can rock a little during use so it may be worth placing it on a secure grip mat if possible to minimize damage to the machine or surface area it is on.

The screen is absolutely incredible to use and couldn’t be any more convenient. It is backlit with a high resolution and a brickyard display which means most users should be able to see the graphics clearly without glasses.

The fact the elliptical is self-powered is also convenient because you don’t have to consider where you’re setting it up in relation to a power point, it also means the machine is eco-friendly which is an added bonus you don’t get with most elliptical machines.

“It is quiet, so will be very easy to sit and enjoy music, even watch tv while getting in some great exercise.” – Click here to read the full review on Amazon

The entertainment on the HCI Fitness PhysioStep RXT-1000 is limited to the programs it provides. There are no music or reading facilities but the variation and diversity of the programs should keep you considerably entertained during use.

  • Frame: Lifetime

  • Electronic Parts: 3 Years
  • Labor: 1 Year

The Final Verdict

Despite the relatively high price tag, the HCI Fitness PhysioStep RXT-1000 Recumbent Elliptical Trainer is well designed, innovative and well worth the money. The comfort features alone are of high enough quality to warrant a higher price bracket, without even considering the other useful features of the elliptical.

If you’re in need of an alternative way to work out that gives you everything a standard elliptical does and more, the HCI Fitness PhysioStep RXT-1000 Recumbent Elliptical Trainer is definitely the machine for you.

Exerpeutic 1000Xl Heavy Duty Magnetic Elliptical Trainer Review

The Exerpeutic 1000Xl is a lightweight, budget elliptical trainer with basic heart rate monitoring capabilities, magnetic tension resistance and 6 basic feedback options. It is an extremely light machine weighing in at just 76 pounds which makes it easy to transport and place within a home gym environment.

Some budget ellipticals give you exceptional value for money; does the Exerpeutic 1000Xl fall into that category?

Dimensions & Technical Specifications

  • 23 (width) x 54 (length) x 63 (height) inches (58.2 x 137.16 x 160.02 centimeters)
  • 300 pounds maximum user weight (136.07 kg)
  • 76 pounds assembled weight (34.4 kg)
  • 81 pounds shipping weight (36.7 kg)

Key Features

  • Weight Capacity – Up to 300lbs of user weight capacity is provide through heavy duty construction
  • Workout Arms – Dual Action Workout Arms will provide a upper body workout to tone the whole body.
  • Target Zone Monitor: Pulse pads on the additional stationary handle bars provide heart rate monitoring
  • Transportation Wheels – For easy room relocation
  • Computer – An easy to read large window LCD display that indicates distance, calories burned, time, speed, scan and target zone heart rate monitoring.
  • Safety – Larger pedal design with ribbed design prevents any foot slippage when exercising
  • Tension Resistance –  Level magnetic tension resistance adjustments can provide the user with a more challenging workout
  • Dual Direction Flywheel – The flywheel is dual directional for frontwards and backwards workout capability.
  • Quietness: The precision balanced flywheel and V- belt drive provide a smooth and quiet operation. It will not interfere with watching TV or listening to music.
  • Stride Length: 13”

Considering the small stride length of just 13 inches (most elliptical trainers are around 18 inches) and the very low weight of this machine; the Exerpeutic 1000XL is in fact extremely comfortable to use. It really feels incredibly sturdy despite appearances.

“It’s comfortable to use (I’m 5’6″ and the stride is great for me), your feet don’t slide around, and the price is a bargain.” – Click here to read the full review on Amazon

The dual direction flywheel means movement is extremely smooth and quiet, contributing to the overall quality feel of the product. The handlebars also move smoothly and create an arm reach perfectly adequate for most heights. The magnetic tension resistance provides a more difficult workout without any extra strain on the body.

The foot pedals are adequate but the non-slip rib effect is not as effective as it could be in reducing potential slippages, particularly if you don’t have the correct footwear on; it would definitely benefit from having a ridge all around the pedal rather than just two sides. However, this is a very minor issue that shouldn’t affect the bulk of your workout.

“It’s solid and stays still during your workout.” – Click here to read the full review on Amazon

Despite its limited capabilities, the Exerpeutic 1000XL elliptical trainer really does push you hard with the features it does have to offer. If you’ve got a good, solid and sturdy elliptical base to work on, you do tend to find you workout harder because there’s no fear of the machine toppling or rocking during full motion. The dual direction flywheel, combined with the 8 resistance levels mean you have lots of opportunities to extend your workout and exercise different muscle groups.

Despite the lack of programs on offer, there is still a lot of room for variation in the way of exercise, which means that you will have to push yourself to work harder, but most importantly you have the opportunity to do that on this machine.

You can also track your performance using the basic feedback options which are; distance, calories burned, time, speed, scan and target zone heart rate. The heart rate sensor pads on the handlebars do work, but don’t always give an accurate reading which is something to consider when tracking your progress.

Ease Of Use & Convenience

Unfortunately the elliptical is not as easy to assemble as it is to use. The instructions are incredibly difficult to follow and you may find it takes you some time to set the machine up. The moving parts will also need some extra greasing in order to get the parts lubricated enough to run smoothly.

When you have managed to get it setup, it is incredibly sturdy, compact and easy to transport. The transport wheels combined with the lightweight frame mean most people will be able to move it around with ease.

“I wish it had a shelf/ledge, or somewhere to rest a book or music player.” – Click here to read the full review on Amazon

The entertainment options included with the Exerpeutic 1000XL elliptical trainer are very much down to the user. There are no entertainment features in the way of reading racks, music systems or impressive graphics. The fact that the machine doesn’t have a cup holder really sets the president for the extras you’re likely to get.

That being said, the machine itself is enjoyable to use and has enough feedback, resistance and customization options to allow you to enjoy a varied and fulfilling workout over and over again. You may have to provide your entertainment but the machine itself is providing enough of a workout for you to gain plenty of hours exercise from it with little fuss. Plus, as the trainer is relatively portable once constructed, you can always position it in front of the TV with minimal effort.

  • 3 year limited

The Final Verdict

“All in all, if you are willing to assemble it, and are up for a great workout, I highly recommend the Exerpeutic!” – Click here to read the full review on Amazon

For under $200, the Exerpeutic 1000Xl Heavy Duty Magnetic elliptical trainer actually packs a real punch.

For such a small and lightweight machine, it really delivers in a lot of areas that many other budget ellipticals (and even some high-end machines) don’t. You may not have sound capabilities, programs or endless customization options, but you do get a compact, well constructed elliptical machine that has the ability to improve your fitness and work every muscle group…hard.

So, while you don’t get much in the way of fancy extra’s (it is $200 after all!), you do get a sturdy, high performance machine for an extremely reasonable price.

The Smooth Fitness Agile DMT elliptical trainer is designed to hold a maximum weight of 400 pounds, so if you were expecting an extremely sturdy base, that is exactly what you get. You can’t fail to feel safe on this machine which is a great place to start when you’re embarking on your new fitness regime.

“Of all the different elliptical trainers that I have “jogged” on, this is by far the most comfortable.” – Click here to read the full review on Amazon

The manufacturer boasts articulating, shock absorbing foot pads and the benefits definitely aren’t all sales fluff in this instance. This feature is particularly useful for those returning to exercise after an injury or those with long standing knee issues. The super smooth, natural elliptical movement is noticeable and enjoyable, easing the physical endurance you experience with the multitude of programs and adjustability settings on the machine.

The thumb controls on the handlebars are a very intuitive feature and really promote an overall feeling of control during workouts. The cup holder is central and conveniently placed just below the console and the fan is reasonable and adjustable but isn’t as strong as you would hope for on a machine of this size and more importantly, price.

The Smooth Fitness Agile DMT performs extremely well once it has been set up correctly. The display graphics may not be top notch, but it works well and it’s pretty nifty adjusting the resistance and motion using just the handlebar thumb sensors.

“The stride-motion can be adjusted from an almost flat cross-country skiing type pattern to a slightly more stair-stepper motion, which adds to the level of difficulty.” – Click here to read the full review on Amazon

The preset programs available are; manual program, target programs, interval programs, an endurance program, watts control, fat burning, heart rate control and 5 custom programs. You can then combine those with 12 different motion levels and 20 different intensity levels which means the customization facilities on the machine are quite hefty and should keep your exercise varied for a long time.

The variable stride length between 19 and 24 inches ensures that the machine is suitable for people of varying heights. It doesn’t matter whether you’re short or tall, this nifty feature will ensure that the trainer feels comfortable at all times.

Ease Of Use & Convenience

Unfortunately, the Smooth Agile DMT elliptical trainer does not score highly when it comes to ease of use and convenience. It is fantastic that the product comes packaged so well, but the components are actually pretty difficult to get to and you could find yourself a little frustrated by the various Fort Knox style packaging elements.

The box is also extremely heavy which means you really need it putting down where you intend to use it because it doesn’t fit on a standard dolly, and even the strongest person could find it difficult to lift. The transport wheels really go no way towards helping you move it with ease; the wheels do work but simply don’t make it any easier to move this 356 pound machine.

“It has a 30 pin iPod dock which can play your stuff through the speakers on the unit, which sound pretty good too.” – Click here to read the full review on Amazon

The entertainment features on this machine are the audio system and the mySMOOTH fitness trainer app capability. The Bluetooth module for the app doesn’t always come with the machine so you’ll want to check that if you’re particularly interested in using it.

The audio isn’t incredible on the speaker system but is adequate for a workout scenario. Because the machine comes with such amazing adaptability, customization and program options you’ll most definitely stay entertained with those features alone.

  • Frame – lifetime
  • Braking – lifetime
  • Parts – 7 years
  • Labour – 2 years

The Final Verdict

“Great features for the price and very sturdy. Have had it for 2 months now and looks/acts like a brand new machine.” – Click here to read the full review on Amazon

You definitely get a lot for your money with the Smooth Agile DMT Elliptical trainer. You’ve got endless adjustability and customization features to add variety to your workout programs so there’s no questioning the value; you’ve also got a decent sound system to ensure the tunes stay flowing during your workout.

The biggest plus (and negative) is the huge size and weight of the machine; in essence, if you can get it in your house and set it up, you’re set up for life with this elliptical. So, although the set-up process might be a bit of a hassle, it’s well worth going through considering the exceptional quality and feature-set of this machine.

Precor 240i Stretch Trainer Review

The Precor 240i Stretch Trainer is a small and compact piece of equipment for use in assisting with deep stretches that would usually only be gained with the help of another person.

Stretching is incredibly beneficial for anyone wanting to improve coordination, flexibility, muscle tone and general athletic ability. The machine enables users to use their own bodyweight to achieve maximum stretching with little to no effort. But, are these gains worth the $700 dollar price tag?

Dimensions & Technical Specifications

  • 52 (length) x 28 (width) x 36 (height) inches (132 x 71 x 91 cm)
  • 60 pounds (27 kg) assembled weight
  • 77 pounds (35 kg) shipping weight
  • Height allowances – the machine accommodates most heights

Key Features

  • Instructional Placard; Instructional placard shows you eight essential stretches to target key muscle groups – lower back, hamstrings, gluteal/hips, hips/legs/back, inner thighs/groin, upper back, shoulders and quadriceps.
  • Biomechanics; The design places you in ergonomically correct stretching positions for maximum warm-up and cool-down benefits. A comfortable seat and kneepads help you to sit comfortably. Your movement is enhanced by gravity and seamlessly translates into positive feedback and immediate results.
  • Design; Unique seated design helps stabilize your back during stretching movements. Padded handlebars allow you to control the intensity and duration of each stretch.
  • Space Efficient; Light weight and small size fit conveniently in your home
  • Frame; Two-step powder coating process applies rust-resistant undercoat and cosmetic topcoat to the steel frame.
  • Upholstery; Premium-quality upholstery with Beautyguard protective topcoat finish. Fabric meets or exceeds California fire regulations (Bulletin 117, section E). Double-layer slipcover in appropriate high wear areas. Double stitching on all seams.
  • Pivot Points; Pivot points use quiet, self-lubricating bushings.

The Precor 240i Stretch Trainer is extremely comfortable to use and saves a lot of the discomfort you may get from trying to stretch at this level using only a floor mat. The design of the seat ensures that you’re comfortable while stretching and supports your core during the recommended exercises. The kneepads also support your knees during the stretches which, again, is much more comfortable and supportive than the floor and enables you to prolong your stretching exercises.

The purpose of the Precor 240i is to help improve fitness but also to enable users to enjoy a more comfortable stretching experience; it definitely meets that criteria and makes stretching a lot more comfortable than it usually is on floor mats.

“The primary stretch “Lower Back” is great and as simple as it seems, it’d be very hard to replicate as effectively and safely without the machine.” – Click here to read the full review on Amazon

The level of performance achieved on the Precor 240i Stretch Trainer is very much down to the user. The instructions for the stretches are very clearly laid out on the placard using descriptive text and pictures. The stretch options available are;  lower back, hamstrings, gluteal/hips, hips/legs/back, inner thighs/groin, upper back, shoulders and quadriceps. This machine is particularly useful as an aid to increase performance in other areas. It can be used before or after a workout and will increase flexibility before exercise and help stretch and relieve muscles after a workout.

It is also an excellent way to relieve pain after an injury (medical professionals should be consulted before use) and can be an excellent form of regular pain relief, particularly with back injuries.

Ease Of Use & Convenience

The Precor 240i is relatively easy to assemble but does involve a few fiddly parts that could be a little time-consuming to put together. It is imperative that assembly is done properly with this machine as you don’t want to injure yourself using it if it is not secure. It’s worth taking the extra time to check it has been put together properly to protect your safety when using it.

“The primary stretch “Lower Back” is great and as simple as it seems, it’d be very hard to replicate as effectively and safely without the machine.” – Click here to read the full review on Amazon

The machine itself is very convenient, easy to use and takes up little space so can be stored easily or kept in a small space within a household. There are no buttons or mechanics to it’s as easy to use as they get and also doesn’t require a power supply (this gives you a lot more freedom in regards to where you can keep the trainer).

The entertainment with this machine is very much down to the user. There are no additional extras to entertain you during your stretching but it can be an extremely relaxing machine to use if you do choose to use it regularly.

Stretching the body’s key muscle groups releases a lot of tension and promotes overall well-being. You will have to entertain yourself if you feel you need entertaining, but you will more than likely not be using it for periods at a time that require any entertainment anyway. If you do require entertainment though, the Precor 240i stretch trainer can easily be moved in front of the TV as it is relatively lightweight.

  • Frame and Welds: Lifetime
  • Parts (Mechanical): 10 years
  • Wear Items: 10 years
  • Labor: 10 years

The Final Verdict

“My suggestion is that if you have a condition that has resulted in contraction and atrophy of muscles this my be worth many times the price for you.” – Click here to read the full review on Amazon

The Precor 240i StretchTrainer™ is a very simple machine in concept but also an extremely useful one. The deep stretches facilitated by this piece of equipment really do help the body feel more aligned, flexible and relaxed. This equipment is used in a gym environment so is already tried and tested by those regularly enjoying its benefits in conjunction with regular forms of exercise.

Is it worth the money? If you have an injury that would benefit from deep stretching at home then this machine is probably worth the $700 price tag. However, despite its innovation and intelligent design, you can’t help but feel that for what it is, it’s a little overpriced, especially considering the fact that you could purchase a mid-range elliptical trainer for this price.

Schwinn 425 Elliptical Trainer Review

The Schwinn 425 Elliptical trainer is a budget machine with a wide range of interesting and useful features. The machine boasts; an 18-inch stride length, a 3 speed fan, inbuilt speakers, handlebar grip heart rate sensors, 10 preset workout programs, an oversized console and 16 levels of magnetic resistance.

Schwinn are well-known for producing high quality, highly functional elliptical machines that fall into the budget range because of their low price points. But, how does this Schwinn trainer stack up to its predecessors and more importantly, other budget ellipticals on the market.

Dimensions & Technical Specifications

  • 62 (length) x 26 (width) x 71 (height) (157 x 66 x 180 cm)
  • 300 lbs (136 kg) maximum user weight
  • 150 lbs (68 kg) assembly weight
  • 168 pounds (76.2 kg)

Key Features

  • Compact front drive
  • Fixed 18” stride length
  • 16 levels of magnetic resistance
  • Oversized console loaded with features
  • Large 5” X 2.25” LCD window with brickyard
  • 10 programs with additional features
  • 3 speed fan
  • Speakers
  • Grip heart rate sensors
  • 6 leveling points for a stable workout platform
  • AC adaptor (included)
  • Transport wheels; for easy transport of the machine once set up

The Schwinn 425 elliptical trainer is incredibly sturdy and robust allowing you to feel safe and secure using the machine at its full capacity. The 3-speed fan does contribute towards comfort somewhat but unfortunately is not adjustable so only really benefits those of a particular height. The 18-inch stride length on this elliptical machine is adequate for most but taller users (or users with large stride) may struggle with this stride and find it a little restricting and uncomfortable.

“Whether I go really fast at low levels or go slow at an upper level, it gives me the feel of stability and comfort.” – Click here to read the full review on Amazon

The six leveling points do come in useful as they allow you to create a stable working platform which is essential for safety and allows you to enjoy your workout without the worry of any knocking or rocking. The articulating footplates are a good size but would benefit from some gel cushioning to increase comfort during those long workout sessions. Despite the grip, they are still very hard on the bottom of the feet after you’ve been working out on the machine for a while.

“There are eight (including manual and fitness test) different workout programs which were fun to try and achieve.” – Click here to read the full review on Amazon

The Schwinn 425 elliptical trainer offers many ways to optimize workout performance. The smooth, natural movement provides an enjoyable, low impact workout before you’ve even started using the programs. The machine has eight different programs and a six user profile capability. The fact that you can have six different user profiles on the machine is more than you get with some ellipticals at a much higher price point. It’s incredibly useful as it means the whole family can use the machine and track their own individual progress.

The feedback options are; Time, RPM, Distance,  Results, Speed, Calories, Resistance Level, Course Profile and Heart Rate. The heart rate is monitored using the handlebar sensors which aren’t particularly accurate if you’re tracking your progress regularly.

The fact that the machine is so enjoyable to use means you’ll have no trouble enjoying a full workout on the machine without engaging the programs. The 16 levels of resistance are smooth and intense, providing ample opportunity to intensify workouts as your fitness improves.

Ease Of Use & Convenience

“The only con is the quality of the LCD screen. Feels very cheap.” – Click here to read the full review on Amazon

The Schwinn 425 trainer is very easy to assemble and requires little effort in the way of construction. The LCD screen on the console is low quality and does not contribute anything towards the overall aesthetics of the machine. The workout programs can also be difficult to navigate which is unusual for a Schwinn elliptical trainer.

With such a low number of programs on the console you would expect the tech to be relatively simple but the processes involved seems overcomplicated and fussy.

The wheels under the front flywheel base are convenient and mean you can easily transport your machine with relative ease.

“Display base fits my 7″ Google Nexus tablet perfectly, but the iPad only fits in portrait mode.” – Click here to read the full review on Amazon

The entertainment on the Schwinn 425 machine comes in the form of inbuilt speakers and a reading rack. The rack is not particularly stable and only holds an iPad in a portrait position. The speakers are adequate but not fantastic; appropriate for a workout but you’ll need to provide your own sound if you want high-quality bassy music to support you alongside your workout.

The overall entertainment quality of the machine is high; the fact that it feels so smooth and natural means you’re more likely to want to stay on it for longer and workout harder, with or without the basic programs and basic music facilities.

  • Frame: 5 yrs
  • Parts & Electronics: 1 year
  • Wear Parts & Labor: 90 days

The Final Verdict

“This elliptical gives me a better workout then the ones at the gym. It’s a great product for the money.” – Click here to read the full review on Amazon

The Schwinn 425 Elliptical trainer is a low budget, high value machine because it has everything you need to enjoy a demanding workout in the comfort of your own home.

Unfortunately for this particular Schwinn model, the user interface is not very easy to use which is a particularly key negative overall. The poor entertainment facilities and non adjustable fan don’t really affect the quality of the overall machine (unless they are particularly important to the buyer) so it does still remain good value despite these issues.

At just under $600, it doesn’t quite match up to some of Schwinns other elliptical trainers but the quality still remains and for most, this machine will be perfectly adequate. You’ll still get an excellent workout with or without the programs or below par entertainment facilities.
