The Schwinn 430 elliptical trainer is a mid-range machine that has been designed to provide the user with an impressive selection of workout options and entertainment features, as well as an extremely sturdy, durable and rugged base to workout on.
It boasts 22 different workout options, a dual LCD window system, 20 levels of resistance, 10 resistance quick keys and a 3-speed fan, to name just a few of the mammoth list of impressive features. The Schwinn 430 also works alongside a fitness tracking app which suggests it really is completely set up to be a top of the range, user friendly, modern workout machine.
It is also the successor to the Schwinn 420 and features noticeable improvements, albeit at a slightly increase price tag.

Without even using the Schwinn 430 elliptical trainer, you learn through initial delivery and set up that it is very heavy. As long as you position it where you want to use it (there are transport wheels should you change your mind), this is a real positive, especially for people who are quite stocky or tall. The sturdier the machine, the safer you feel and this elliptical definitely delivers on its promise of a robust, solid base.

The footplates are large and cushioned which is a real bonus for those with larger feet or those who find long workouts uncomfortable on the balls of their feet. The high inertia perimeter weighted flywheel makes for a smooth and quiet elliptical movement which softens the walking motion and contributes to musculoskeletal support.
You’ll also have refreshment at your fingertips with the double water bottle holder centre placement.
You’d be hard pushed to complain about the plethora of programs and customization options available on the Schwinn 430. If you’re new to elliptical trainers or full body exercise as a whole you may find the beginner programs a little more demanding than the description suggests. However, the fact that the beginner options start off at quite an intermediate level of physicality suggests that the higher levels are designed to really push your physical skills and endurance.

The 10 quick resistance change keys are a fantastic feature for those wanting to use quick burst interval training techniques rather than slow build up programs. The ergonomic handlebars also allow you to customize your workout even further and work different muscle groups with the capacity to use multiple handlebar positions.
The integrated heart monitor sensors on the handlebars are designed to help you track your heart rate while you workout. Unfortunately grip heart rate sensors are notoriously inaccurate and can’t be relied on to give you a 100% accurate reading, the sensors on this machine do not disprove this theory and give out varied readings at times.
Ease Of Use & Convenience
Despite the size and weight of the machine it is fairly simple and easy to setup and contains pre-greased moving parts which means you’re saved the effort of messy grease application and lubrication procedures.
In terms of workout programming, it’s all pretty straightforward and easy to use once you’ve spent a bit of time working through the various settings and options. A user manual for the programming is not included in the package but can be easily downloaded from the manufacturers website, which is a little irritating but not a massive problem, especially if you’re logging on to set yourself up with the integrated fitness app ‘My Fitness Pal’.
“There is a USB port to charge your mobile or tablet device!! You can also plug into the auxiliary port to use the speakers and play music–it even comes with the cable needed!” – Click here to read the full review on Amazon.
The USB data transfer facility is extremely useful as it allows you to track your progress outside of the machine itself, transferring time, calorie and distance data onto the Schwinn Connect website. The USB port also charges iPhones and similar tech, which is a nice touch.
Although the multiple user functionality, LED tracking lights, incredible workout selection and 20 levels of eddy current resistance all make for a convenient workout package, the height of the machine can cause a few problems. The shortest incline still leaves users who are over 6 foot in height at risk of a ceiling collision; this is something to bare in mind if you have low ceilings throughout your property and are particularly tall (or have a tall partner).
The Schwinn 430 elliptical trainer really has over delivered on entertainment value in the way of a decent fan, USB charger, inbuilt speakers and dual track LCD window. The way the machine is set up means you’ll have no trouble keeping entertained with the various customization options, particularly the quick resistance change keys which allow you to switch up your workout intensity with one button click. The dual track window allows you to keep track of your speed, distance and calories burnt as part of a 13 feedback option feature.
The sealed acoustic chamber speakers don’t offer you the same quality a full sound system would, but they’re of a much better standard than previous models and offer a decent enough sound for a workout, so long as you’re not a die-hard audiophile.

The Final Verdict
“I LOVE this machine!” – Click here to read the full review on Amazon.
If you’re looking for an elliptical with bells, whistles and more, the Schwinn 430 Elliptical trainer is definitely for you. It delivers in entertainment, performance and comfort and overall there’s really not a feature on it that doesn’t deliver to a more than acceptable standard.
It also features a 20-inch stride length which typically, will be comfortable for most people no matter what height you happen to be. If you do prefer the customisability of a variable stride length but like the features of offer from the Schwinn range of elliptical machines, you might want to check out the Schwinn 460. This machine features a variable stride length between 18 and 26 inches.
Overall though, the Schwinn 430 offers exceptional value for money considering it retails well under the $1000 mark and provides an all round, enjoyable elliptical experience.
